presentation
Presentation of fine art should ensure that the work is properly displayed, authenticated, and preserved for generations. Thoughtful presentation not only protects the integrity of the photograph but also enhances its visual impact. The use of archival materials is critical to longevity, while authentication provides assurance for the collector regarding a work’s origin. These elements of presentation require careful consideration and a sustained dedication to craftsmanship.
Fine art prints, regardless of size or framing, are mounted on Peterboro Museum 4-ply, 100% cotton board. This mat board is acid-free and adheres to the stringent standards of the Fine Art Trade Guild and Professional Picture Framers Association. Mat borders are carefully proportioned to ensure visual balance (see information below). Each photograph is permanently adhered to the mat board using acid-free dry mount tissue and a heated dry mount press.

The floating effect of the print is emphasized by the reveal in the overmat. Reveal dimensions are determined by print size to maintain proper visual balance. An additional 1/8 inch of space is incorporated below the print to accommodate the photograph’s title, signature, and edition number when applicable. All signing, titling, and numbering are completed by hand using graphite pencil for archival permanence and care. Additionally, each print is stamped on the lower center of the mat board’s reverse using archival ink and identified by title, location, year, and edition number (if applicable). All matted prints are delivered in an acid-free, clear archival sleeve designed for artwork storage.
Framing of fine art prints begins with the matted print as described above. Each framed work includes a protective backing of 3/16 inch Bainbridge acid-free foam board and OP-3 UV-filtering acrylic. I have found premium, conservation-grade acrylic to be superior to glass in both optical clarity and weight. Frames are completed with an acid-free dust cover paper backing to protect the artwork from debris, and all hardware—including hanging wire and corner bumpers—is installed so the piece arrives ready for display.
Careful consideration is given to the framing options offered. A black frame is a classic, timeless choice well suited for black and white fine art photography. Natural wood frames provide a more contemporary yet equally refined aesthetic, with selection ultimately guided by the character of the space and personal preference. Both options are available in 1 inch and 1 1/2 inch mouldings, with the wider moulding recommended for prints measuring 16 x 20 inches and larger. All mouldings have an approximate depth of 1 1/4 inch, providing a balanced presence on the wall.
The presentation of a fine art print is an extension of the print itself. For this reason, all aspects of print presentation—whether matting or framing—are completed personally by me. The same attention to detail applied during printing continues through every stage of presentation, with the intent that each work is preserved and presented in a manner worthy of its creation, and capable of enduring for generations.
