fine art prints

The fine art print represents the culmination of photographic vision first formed before the camera was set atop the tripod and carried through to its final expression in print. There is a living relationship between how a scene is experienced and the tonality represented in print, as perception evolves, so too can the print. In the same way, the techniques and tools used in the creation of a fine art print may evolve over time. The information shared here reflects my current working process, grounded in experience and guided by ongoing refinement.

I have worked exclusively with Epson Stylus Pro printers for numerous years and currently employ both a desktop model (3880) and a large format model (7900). This combination allows for consistency and control when producing prints across a range of sizes.

In late 2024 I was introduced to Piezography Pro inks by a fellow photographer and was profoundly impressed by the quality of the black and white prints they produced. Piezography Pro inks are widely regarded as the pinnacle of digital black and white printmaking, offering exceptional archival stability and tonal richness—an assessment that has been affirmed through my own experience. This carbon-pigment system brings the archival benefits and depth of tonality in traditional darkroom printing into the inkjet printing process.

Equally important to the appearance of the print is the paper itself. Over the years, I have tested a wide range of fine art papers in search of one that most closely reflects the qualities of traditional black and white fiber based papers that I previously worked with in the darkroom. Texture and tone were paramount in this evaluation. I currently print on Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag, whose smooth satin finish, bright whites and rich blacks best represent the tonality of my work.

Fine art prints are available in both open and limited editions. Print sizes 11 x 14 inches and smaller are offered as open editions. Prints measuring 16 x 20 inches and larger are offered as limited editions, with an edition size of 75 total prints. Each limited edition print is individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authentication. Pricing for limited editions increases in defined increments at each interval of 15 prints as the edition progresses.

All fine art prints of my photographs are produced personally by me. I take great care and satisfaction in the printing process, and each print is produced with close attention to detail, tonality, and expressive intent.
